Irshad Manji and Faith Without Fear
As part of LGCM’s commitment to inclusive interfaith initiatives challenging fundamentalism we are pleased to be promoting the visit to London on 21 January of Irshad Manji and a screening of her film, Faith Without Fear.
Irshad Manji is the international best-selling author of The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in her Faith. The film takes a journey to reconcile her faith in Allah with her love of freedom and asks: How can Muslims change for the 21st century? Faith Without Fear raises important questions about women’s role in modern Islam.
Her journey takes her from the conservative Islam in Yemen, where she meets Osama bin Laden’s former bodyguard, to Spain where different cultures and religions flourished under Muslim civilisation.
She also seeks to reconcile her liberal approach to Islam, as a lesbian muslim, with her more conservative mother and challenges conventional views on Islam, which has led to confrontations with Islamic clerics in her native Canada.
Faith Without Fear presents a personal account of a modern Muslim woman looking to balance religion and life in the twenty first century.
